We spent our first day working in Anahuac. I don't have any idea what the temperature actually was, but it was perfect working weather. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and I even got sunburnt--slight contrast from what's happening at home, I hear!
Today we broke up into two teams and both of us, as promised, worked on roofs. That is tough work and if we are looking at a whole week of this, we're going to be a bunch of stiff people. The lady that Team 1 worked for was an 83-year-old lady who lived with her daughter. Her house was in pretty good shape; but it definitely needed a roof and there was some water damage inside. We got almost all of the roof done; one half still needs shingles, but we should get it done by lunch tomorrow. No major problems.. just a few blisters.
After the day of hard work it was nice to come to hot showers and a wonderful supper. Jane will be helping in the kitchen this week. They spent the day organizing the kitchen, making cookies and, of course, preparing supper. If the last two meals we had were any indication of what's to come, we for sure won't be going hungry at all.
I think this might be an early night for us--a lot of us didn't sleep so well last night and after a day of hard work, we'll be looking forward to bed!
